UAE Tour 2026: Tiberi's Epic Climb to Victory | Stage 3 Highlights (2026)

A brutal climb has shattered pre-race expectations and handed the UAE Tour lead to an unexpected contender! The cycling world was abuzz after Stage 3 of the UAE Tour, where the formidable Jebel Mobrah climb served as a harsh judge, leading to a dramatic shift in the race's hierarchy.

Antonio Tiberi of Bahrain Victorious emerged as the day's victor, conquering the punishing ascent with a masterful display of climbing prowess. This marks a significant milestone for the 22-year-old, as it's his first WorldTour win and propels him into the coveted leader's red jersey. He described the victory as a lifelong dream come true, a testament to his consistent form throughout the season.

But here's where it gets controversial... The biggest shock of the day was the spectacular implosion of pre-race favorite Remco Evenepoel. The Belgian, who had dominated the previous day's time trial, completely crumbled on the unforgiving slopes of Jebel Mobrah. He lost a staggering more than two minutes, effectively dropping him out of contention for the overall victory. Evenepoel cited pre-existing cramps and a poor night's sleep due to the heat as contributing factors, but ultimately stated he wouldn't make excuses.

And this is the part most people miss... While Tiberi celebrated, Isaac del Toro of UAE Emirates-XRG put in a heroic late chase, nearly catching Tiberi after being out of position earlier in the stage. He ultimately finished a commendable second, just 15 seconds behind Tiberi, showcasing his immense talent and resilience. Former UAE Tour champion Lennert van Eetvelt rounded out the podium in third.

The Jebel Mobrah climb itself has been described as one of the toughest ever featured in a February WorldTour race. Spanning 15 kilometers with a brutal 7-kilometer finale averaging a grueling 12 percent gradient, it proved to be a true test of endurance and climbing ability. Many other strong climbers, including Adam Yates, Michael Storer, and Ben O’Connor, also lost significant time.

Tiberi will now look to defend his lead on Saturday's summit finish to Jebel Hafeet. Do you think Evenepoel's struggles were solely due to physical issues, or could there be a mental aspect at play after such a dramatic collapse? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
