After misplacing his passport, the young man, identified only as Mr. M, faced the daunting challenge of being unable to return to Malaysia. With no options left, he took refuge at a McDonald's, where he spent a sleepless night wrestling with worry about his lost document.
As dawn broke, desperation drove him to seek assistance at the Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange. Tearfully, he approached Nithyananthan Palne, a senior assistant interchange supervisor at the station, pleading for help. "He was visibly upset and crying, saying that without his passport, he couldn’t go back home and felt completely lost," Nathan recalled, deeply moved by the man's distress.
The urgency of the situation was clear. Mr. M believed he might have accidentally left his passport on one of the buses. Responding swiftly, Nathan reached out to various bus interchanges and even contacted Seletar Bus Depot, determined to assist Mr. M. His efforts bore fruit when he discovered that a bus driver had indeed found a passport under a seat on Bus Service 24.
After verifying Mr. M's identity, Nathan made his way to the depot, retrieved the lost passport, and returned it to the grateful man at the interchange. "The moment he got it back, his joy was palpable," Nathan shared. Days later, Mr. M reached out to SBS Transit to express his heartfelt gratitude, emphasizing how Nathan’s quick thinking and efficient action had made all the difference.
In his letter, Mr. M recounted, "I lost my passport and had no idea where it went. Because I couldn't find it, I had to sleep at McDonald's last night. I am incredibly happy and surprised by Nathan's prompt response to help me recover my passport... I want to extend my deepest thanks to him."
