Kove's 350 Rally: A New Road-Oriented Spin-Off
Kove, a company known for its Dakar Rally bikes, is expanding its lineup with the introduction of the 350 Rally. This new model is a road-oriented spin-off of the 450 Rally, designed to cater to a different market segment.
The 350 Rally features a smaller engine capacity, likely around 350cc, which is a significant drop from the 450cc engine of the 450 Rally. The engine design remains similar, with a single-cylinder configuration, but the overall package is more road-biased.
One of the most notable changes is the new bodywork, which gives the bike a more conventional appearance. The large fuel tank extends into the bike's belly, and the windscreen is near-vertical, reminiscent of the Dakar Rally bike's design. However, the 350 Rally has a unique nose design with a stacked headlight setup and wing-shaped DRLs, a departure from the twin, side-by-side lights of the 450 Rally.
The onboard TFT dash is landscape-oriented and can be used to mount a GPS. The seat shape is also different, with a more centered dip compared to the flat, motocross-style seat of the 450 Rally. These changes make the 350 Rally more street-legal, with road-legal lighting, a licence plate bracket, and side reflectors.
The exhaust system has also been rerouted, with the header pipe set high alongside the engine's cylinder head, feeding a high-mounted silencer under the seat. This design change contributes to the bike's overall road-oriented appearance.
Kove's new headlight design is a significant departure from their existing family face, with its twin lamps under a frowning brow. The stacked headlight setup on the 350 Rally is less distinctive, but it's a conscious decision to make the bikes more conventional-looking, potentially to appeal to a broader customer base.
The 350 Rally is expected to be part of a new family look that will spread across Kove's lineup in 2027. This includes the Kove 800X adventure bike and the Kove 450R four-cylinder roadster, both of which have been subject to new design patents and type-approval documents.
In my opinion, Kove's decision to create a road-oriented spin-off of the 450 Rally is a strategic move to diversify their product range and appeal to a wider market. The 350 Rally's design, while inspired by the Dakar Rally bike, is tailored for the street, making it a more accessible and versatile option for riders.
What makes this particularly fascinating is the company's ability to adapt its design language while maintaining a cohesive family look. The new headlight design, while less distinctive, is a subtle yet effective way to make the bikes more conventional-looking, which could potentially increase their marketability.
