Cork GAA Championships 2026: Preview and Analysis of the Group Draws (2026)

Cork GAA Championships: Reigning Champions Face Tough Draws, New Teams in 'Group of Death'

The Cork GAA championships are underway, and the draws have been announced, revealing some intriguing matchups and potential surprises. Reigning champions Barrs and Sars have been handed challenging draws, while new teams Knocknagree find themselves in a 'group of death'.

In the Premier Senior hurling draw, Blackrock and Glen Rovers, who reached the semi-finals and quarter-finals respectively this year, will face off against Kanturk and Fr O'Neill's in Group A. Kanturk, in particular, made life difficult for both Blackrock and the Barrs in the group campaign this year, while Fr O'Neill's almost beat Glen Rovers in their summer match.

Sars, aiming for a third hurling crown in four years, are in Group 2 with Charleville, Douglas, and Newtownshandrum. Sars overcame Charleville in the quarter-final in September. St Finbarr's, the back-to-back Munster club football finalists, will start their campaign in Group 1 with Carrigaline, Mallow, and Douglas, none of whom emerged from their groups this season.

The most competitive football group is Group C, featuring 2023 and 2024 champions Castlehaven, 2025 semi-finalists Ballincollig, 2025 League finalists Clonakilty, and this year's Senior A champions Knocknagree.

In other draws, newly promoted Bride Rovers join Midleton, the Barrs, and Newcestown in Group 3. The two most recent runners-up in the Cork Senior A hurling championship, Castlelyons and Blarney, are in Group A with Watergrasshill and Ballyhea. There are three ultra-competitive groups in the Senior A football draw, with Cabery Rangers and Cill na Martra in Group B.

The Premier IHC Group 2 is particularly local, with Dungourney, Cloyne, Castlemartyr, and Lisgoold in the same group. The full group stage draws for hurling and football are listed below, with each group featuring a mix of experienced and new teams, setting the stage for an exciting championship.
