Imagine a sea of familiar faces, laughter echoing through the halls, and memories flooding back as old friends reunite. This was the scene at Bukidnon State University (BukSU) on December 20, 2025, when the Elementary Laboratory School and Secondary Laboratory School Alumni Association hosted their highly anticipated Alumni Homecoming. But here's where it gets heartwarming: this wasn't just a nostalgic gathering; it was a testament to the enduring bonds forged within the walls of these schools.
The university gymnasium buzzed with excitement as alumni from various graduating classes came together for a day filled with camaraderie and celebration. The event featured a lively mix of activities, including thrilling raffle draws, engaging interactive games, and a special recognition for the batches with the highest attendance—a friendly competition that sparked both pride and playful rivalry. Adding to the festive atmosphere, the band Utopia and DJ RB Banaag delivered electrifying musical performances that kept the energy high throughout the day.
The program kicked off with inspiring remarks from Marlon Valcorza, president of the ELS/SLS Alumni Association. He emphasized the importance of continuity and the shared ties that unite graduates of the two laboratory schools. And this is the part most people miss: these ties aren’t just about shared memories; they’re about a collective commitment to uphold the values and legacy of BukSU. BukSU President Joy M. Mirasol also addressed the gathering, encouraging alumni to stay connected with the university and carry its principles into their personal and professional lives.
According to the Alumni Relations Unit (ARU), the ELS/SLS Alumni Association is more than just a social network—it’s a driving force behind initiatives that strengthen alumni engagement and support university programs. Here’s where it gets controversial: while some alumni associations focus solely on social events, this group actively collaborates with BukSU to foster a sense of responsibility and gratitude among its members. “Through various initiatives, activities, and collaborative efforts with the university, the association continues to contribute to programs that strengthen alumni engagement, support school activities, and uphold the values and legacy of BukSU,” explained ARU Head, Ms. Katrina Faith M. Melig. “This sustained involvement reflects the alumni’s shared sense of gratitude and responsibility to the institution that helped shape their academic and personal journeys.”
The success of the homecoming wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of sponsors and partners. Boldly highlighting a point of potential debate: while sponsorships are common for such events, the level of community involvement here raises questions about the role of external stakeholders in shaping alumni relations. Platinum sponsors included Congressman John Flores, John Fortich, Dialysis Center, and Dean Eduave, while Gold sponsors were Minute Burger and Apple Manabilang. Silver sponsors were Sarah Lagrama, Allied Material Testing Lab, Mr. and Mrs. Camarinta, RPS Marketing, Steve Ramos Poultry, New Wave Lawyers, Apasdek Construction, ELS Batch ’89 / SLS Batch ’93, RD Glen Galario, and Councilor Niko P.
